Some years ago, we were in New York. While there we went to a Jewish deli and, as was the custom of that deli, they placed pickles and coleslaw on the table even before you ordered your food. Appetizers and also to eat with your meal- good stuff! Dennis loved the pickles! And you might say this was an understatement! We came home always carrying with us a craving for more of those pickles. So, I set out to see if I could make a recipe (there was no internet in those days). But I discovered that Dennis’ mother had a recipe that was an excellent substitute for the Jewish version. I have been making them ever since. You may find the recipe here. Even while pickles are so, so good- a great cucumber salad mixed with a creamy dressing is an excellent summer side dish.

This year you will see these varieties from Our Farm:

A great pickling variety but also work well for fresh eating:

A European style:

And the traditional slicer.

Nothing beats Fresh and Local veggies in the summer. Not picked a month ago. Not shipped 2800 kms. Veggies that go on long “vacations” never travel well. Quality suffers hard. Also, the varieties that they grow are chosen with the sole criteria of being able to withstand the trip. Taste is not one of the traits they look for. So, taste our Local, Fresh and Organic veggies this summer! You Will See the Difference!
